Tensions between Colombia and Venezuela “put citizens at risk”

The lack of a political solution to the on-going tensions between Colombia and Venezuela is of great concern, according to a top UN official in the region.

The two countries have been at odds since the closure of major border crossings nearly a month ago and the reported deportations of Colombian migrants.

The Venezuelan government has said the moves come out of concern for the safety of its citizens along the border.

Fabrizio Hochschild, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Colombia, told Rocio Franco that until the two sides come to a political agreement, there is risk of the crisis escalating.
