A clear understanding of Islamic teachings about the role of women can be used to empower women and girls to effect positive change in their communities.

That's according to Husna Ahmad, the head of Global One, the only Muslim women-led non-governmental organization in the United Kingdom focused on international development.

Ms Ahmad is meeting with other faith leaders and senior UN officials in Bristol, United Kingdom this week to discuss how to work together to implement the new global development targets known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Maria Carlino spoke to Ms Ahmad about the role of faith and culture in supporting the SDGs and gender equality.
