Lifesaving airborne aid deliveries to remote communities in Sudan may have to stop at the end of the month as a funding shortfall bites, the World Food Programme (WFP) said Friday.

In an appeal for nearly USD$10 million to keep the UN Humanitarian  Air Service (UNHAS) running in the gigantic sub-Saharan country, WFP said that needs are greater than ever after recent fighting displaced an estimated 200,000 people.

WFP's Bettina Luescher told Daniel Johnson why it's so important that the air service continues to operate.
