Turkey terrorist attacks condemned

A series of terrorist attacks in Turkey on Monday have been condemned by the UN Secretary-General.

Six members of the country's security forces were reportedly killed in the incidents which took place in Istanbul, and in the south-east provinces.

The United States consulate in Istanbul was also attacked.

Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, expressed hope that the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.

Libya talks to begin in Geneva

Delegations have begun arriving in Geneva ahead of a new round of political dialogue on Libya scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

UN Special Envoy for Libya, Bernardino Léon, who last week announced the convening of the talks, urged parties to redouble efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the country's political and military conflict.

Libya has been consumed by factional fighting since the overthrow of former president Muammar al-Qhadafi in 2011.

Some of the warring parties signed a political agreement last month which Mr Leon hailed at the time as "a very important step on the road to peace.”

UNRWA staff receiving emergency water and sanitation training

Twenty camp engineers with the UN agency that assists Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) have been trained in emergency water, sanitation and hygiene practices, known as WASH.

The staff members are now able to manage WASH components in future emergencies that will be in line with humanitarian standards and principles.

The two-day workshop also looked at cross-cutting topics such as health, protection, accountability and logistics.
