Supporting "pro-poor" investments in agriculture

Policies that support small-scale farmers must also be part of the global push for sustainable development that benefits all people and the planet, the UN food agency has argued.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said combing social protection with private or public sector funding will yield what it called "pro-poor investments" in agriculture.

FAO hosted an event addressing this topic at the Third International Conference on Financing Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Priscilla Lecomte asked FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva why sustainable investment in agriculture is necessary.
