The recent international agreement on Iran's nuclear programme has been unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council.

Known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal affirms that Iran will not seek, develop or acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

Council members on Monday welcomed the political and diplomatic efforts leading to the agreement, which was signed a week ago between international negotiators and the Iranian government.
