Africa needs to be a place of opportunity for youth: UNDP

Despite impressive economic growth rates in Africa, the continent's youth are being sidelined by a lack of opportunity, the UN Development Programme, (UNDP), has warned.

It said young Africans are facing challenges such as high unemployment; unsafe migration, including across the Mediterranean Sea, and religious-inspired extremism.

UNDP is launching an initiative to address these issues.

Objectives include supporting young people's political participation and understanding what drives radicalization.
