Thousands of refugee families in Gaza to receive living support

Close to 2,500 families in Gaza are to benefit from US$1.46 million in funding for outstanding rental subsidy payments and to replace their lost household goods.

That's according to the UN agency working to assist Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.

The families can reportedly access the assistance through local banks.

Gaza is still dealing with the consequences of a 51-day conflict with Israel in July 2014.

First-ever World Youth Skills Day marked by global community

The first-ever commemoration of World Youth Skills Day is being marked on Wednesday by the global community.

The UN says this day serves to underscore the value of helping young people upgrade their own abilities to contribute to the world's common future.

According to United Nations estimates, 75 million adolescents worldwide are out of school, denied a quality education and unable to acquire the skills they need.

In a message, UN chief Ban Ki-moon said that with the right skills, these young people are the force needed to drive progress and build more vibrant societies.
