The electoral period in Haiti is being described by top UN officials as a major moment for the people of the Caribbean nation.

Around six million Haitians are expected to vote in municipal, parliamentary and presidential elections beginning on 9 August.

The UN has been working to ensure that the country's institutions can fully take charge of the electoral process.

Stephanie Coutrix reports on how the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti, (MINUSTAH), and the Haitian National Police have been working hand in hand towards the common goal of peaceful elections.

We begin in the streets of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
