Women in technology encouraged to network

An initiative has been launched in Europe to encourage women working in the field of information and communications technology to build networks of like-minded professionals. The European Commission  is behind the idea, which it says will help women to access funding for start-up projects. Pete Forster met Helen Kopman, the Deputy Head of Innovation Unit at the European Commission at a recent UN technology conference. He asked Ms Kopman for more details about what the Commission is doing for women in technology.

Safe space opened for victims of gender based violence in South Sudan

For victims of gender based violence, a safe space, medical help and someone to talk to is often the first thing they need. Women in Juba, in South Sudan, now have just that thanks to a custom-built centre at the Juba Teaching Hospital. The building has been constructed with support from the UN Population Fund, UNFPA. Regina Gorle asked Caroline Nyama-yembe from UNFPA about the services being provided.

Women with disabilities face many layers of discrimination

Women with disabilities face higher levels of poverty, violence, forced sterilization and exclusion from schools than other people, according to the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Catalina Devandas Aguilar was attending an annual conference on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at UN headquarters in New York. I met with Ms Devandas and began by asking her to describe the challenges women with disabilities are facing worldwide.
