Racially motivated killings in United States condemned by UN chief

The apparently racially motivated killing of nine people in a historic African-American church in the US city of Charleston, South Carolina, has been strongly condemned by the UN chief.

In a statement, Ban Ki-moon extended his deep condolences to the loved ones of the victims and his solidarity to the survivors.

Farhan Haq is Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.

"He hopes the person or persons responsible for this hateful act of violence will be swiftly brought to justice".

Security Council looks forward to signing of peace agreement in Mali

The members of the Security Council have reiterated their support to the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, which suffered a coup d'état in early 2012.

A coalition of armed groups known as the "Coordination" is expected to sign the agreement on 20 June, which will complete the signing process.

The 15-member Security Council urged all parties to refrain from any actions that could undermine the peace process.

"Horrific" attacks in Yemen condemned by Security Council

Attacks in Yemen's capital Sana'a have been condemned in the strongest terms by the UN Security Council.

Its members expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured by what they called "these heinous acts".

Negotiations continue on universal climate change agreement

Negotiators of what is expected to become the next universal climate change agreement recently met in Bonn, Germany to make progress on its content.

UN climate change policy specialist Cassie Flynn briefed the press on their discussions.

"The challenge in Bonn was to take a text that had included all proposals from all parties and turn it into something that parties could then begin to negotiate paragraph by paragraph."

Governments are expected to adopt the agreement in Paris, France next December at the UN Climate Conference, known as COP21.
