No health without mental health

There is no health without mental health, according to the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of people to physical and mental health.

Dainius Puras was speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He said mental well-being should be a priority in public policies.

"Good mental health means much more than the absence of mental impairment. Modern understanding of mental health includes good emotional and social well-being, and healthy and non-violent relations between individuals and groups with mutual trust, tolerance and respect to the dignity of every person."

Mobilization of 164,500 doses of oral cholera vaccine in Tanzania

More than 164,000 doses of oral cholera vaccine have been mobilized by the World Health Organization to help control an outbreak in Tanzania.

The UN health agency reports that the risk of cholera remains high in villages around entry points for asylum seekers in Kigoma region, in the west of the country.

Since the start of the outbreak in early May, there have been over 4,600 suspected or confirmed cholera cases, and 34 deaths.

More clean energy investments create more jobs

Increases in clean energy investments create more job opportunities, according to a new report by the UN.

The paper, released by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), provides evidence that there are clear net-gains in employment generation by making investments in the clean energy industry.
