Audio Slide Show: Celebration of first International Day of Yoga

The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated at United Nations Headquarters on Sunday.

The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution in December 2014 for the day to be observed every 21 June.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India, and has become very popular around the world.

Speaking at the celebration at the UN, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said "yoga is not just about exercise, it is a way to discover the sense of oneness, with yourself, the world and nature".

The following audio slide show offers a glimpse of celebrations that took place in New York, at UN Headquarters and in Times Square.
