US$2.3bn required to educate children in war-torn countries

About 34 million children and adolescents are out of school in conflict-affected countries, according to the UN educational and cultural agency (UNESCO).

In a paper released on Monday UNESCO says there must be an objective needs assessment to truly understand the requirements of children and adolescents in conflict.

To find out more about this, Derrick Mbatha spoke with UNESCO's Kate Redman on the line from Paris who first spoke about the number of children who are out of school in conflict areas.
