As violence ahead of elections in Burundi continues, some 4000 people have fled to neighbouring Tanzania, 60 per cent of whom are children.

That's according to the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, which is supporting the refugees.

At least 12 people have reportedly died in Burundi as a result of violent protests against the decision to have incumbent President Nkurunziza run for a third presidential term.
