"Time of test" for international community

The international community is enduring a "time of test" which demands strong global cooperation and bold action, the United Nations Secretary-General  has said.

Speaking at the Tipperary International Peace Award ceremony in Ireland, Ban Ki-moon said the "lines between terrorists, transnational criminals and extremists" were blurring.

He said greater international cooperation was needed to address the "numerous peace and security challenges" faced by the UN.

Human rights violators in South Sudan must face "justice"

People who commit human rights violations in South Sudan must face "accountability and justice" according to the senior UN official in the country.

Ellen Margrethe Løj made the comment as she completed a visit to a protection-of-civilians site run by the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

More than 60,000 internally displaced people have sought shelter and assistance at the camp in Bentiu and almost 25,000 more at another camp in Malakal.

Experts meet to strengthen "ICT for development" agenda,

Experts have gathered in Geneva to discuss how information and communications technology or ICT can advance the international development agenda.

The new global Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs are to be decided on at the UN in New York this September.

ICT is expected to play an important role.

The meeting in Geneva is the world's largest annual gathering of experts of the so-called "ICT4D" community.
