Food "urgently" needed in Nepal

The provision of food is an increasingly urgent requirement for the survivors of a recent earthquake in Nepal, according to the World Food Programme, WFP.

The tremor in April, which killed more than 7000, has left some 3.5 million people in need of food assistance.

WFP has distributed food to 300,000 people and is bringing in more helicopters to get supplies to hard-hit rural areas where roads are poor or non-existent.

Lack of food and fuel in Yemen will kill children

The lack of food and fuel in Yemen will kill more children in the country than bullets or bombs, the UN Children's Fund, UNICEF has warned.

The agency said that 2.5 million children under five are at immediate risk of diarrheal and other communicable diseases.

It has blamed the collapse of sanitation systems and an inability of municipalities to pump water to homes due the unavailability of fuel.

UNICEF added that an additional 120,000 children are at immediate risk of suffering from severe acute malnutrition due to a lack of food.
