India reaches 1bn mobile subscribers

India is about to reach one billion mobile connections according to a board member of the country's Telecom Regulatory Authority.

The population of India is around one and a quarter billion.

The push to get more people connected is part of the government's Digital India initiative.

The international technology sector has been meeting in Geneva at the UN's World Summit on the Information Society Forum or WSIS.

At the meeting, Peter Forster spoke to Vijayalakshmy Gupta who's on the Board of the Regulatory Authority.
