More than 50,000 post offices in Africa need electricity and the internet so that rural communities can benefit from the e-commerce revolution, according to the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Around 80 per cent of the continent's population lives in remote areas, with limited access to internet based services.

Expanding e-commerce is just one of the UPU’s priorities for developing countries as it prepares for its World Strategy Conference in Geneva later this month.

Daniel Johnson has been speaking to UPU Director General Bishar Hussein.
