Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare

This year's Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare is more significant than ever as it marks the 100th anniversary of the first time chemical weapons were deployed on a large scale in battle.

The UN chief on Wednesday shared this message to mark the annual day, recalling that events during World War I in the town of Ypres, in Belgium should be a distant memory.

But Ban Ki-moon said the truth is that the world is still grappling with what he called the "inhumane and indiscriminate effects" of chemical weapons.

He underlined that just two years ago, reports of the use of chemical weapons in Syria served as a shocking wake-up call to the international community about the continuing threat posed by these weapons.

US review of counter-terrorism operations welcomed by UN

A group of UN independent human rights experts have welcomed the announcement by the Government of the United States of a review into two counter-terrorism operations involving the use of drones.

The experts stressed the need to ensure transparency and accountability.

The United States' government recently acknowledged the accidental killing of four individuals in counter-terrorism operations conducted in January in the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Vaccination campaign begins for people displaced from Yarmouk

A vaccine campaign for those people temporarily displaced from Yarmouk camp in Syria to the nearby area of Yalda, has been initiated by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

The agency said medical personnel established a mobile health point in Yalda, and are expected to treat 325 patients on Wednesday.

ISIL terrorists recently took over more than half of Yarmouk camp, which was home to 18,000 Palestinians.
