Suicide attack in Mali condemned by UN

A suicide attack at the entrance of a UN peacekeeping camp in Ansongo, in the Gao region of Mali, has been strongly condemned by the head of the UN Mission in the country, MINUSMA.

Mongi Hamdi said three civilians lost their lives in the attack, and seven others were injured.

Nine peacekeepers from Niger were also injured, including two seriously.

Mr Hamdi said the attack was cowardly and appalling, but would not deter the UN from its aim to restore peace and security in Mali.

Call to ease plight of Syrian Refugees in south Lebanon

The international community has been called on by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to do more to ease the plight of Syrian refugees in south Lebanon.

António Guterres said they are living in harsh conditions in informal settlements.

Lebanon is host to nearly 1.2 million Syrian refugees, or around a quarter of Lebanon's total population.

Mr Guterres said that would be equivalent to the USA hosting more than 80 million refugees in just four years.

Climate change is "phenomenal economic opportunity", says UN chief

Climate change is the defining issue of our age and is also a phenomenal economic opportunity.

That's what the UN chief said speaking at a "Future of Energy Summit" organized by Bloomberg New Energy Finance on Wednesday.

Ban Ki-moon said the moment of truth will come this December at the next Climate Change Conference in Paris.

The objective of the meeting is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate from all the nations of the world.
