Inter-ethnic violence displaces over 10,000 people in Darfur

More than 10,000 people have been displaced by inter-ethnic conflict in two areas of the Darfur region of Sudan, according to UN relief workers.

"While most areas can be reached, and international aid agencies are working with local partners to distribute shelter, household and medical supplies to people in need, humanitarian workers have not been granted access to several areas in North Jebel Marra in Central Darfur."

Bangladesh urged to stop execution of a leader of the opposition

The government of Bangladesh has been urged by the UN human rights Office in Geneva to stop the execution of a leader of the opposition party.

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the appeal by Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and his execution is reportedly imminent.

He was sentenced to hang by a local war crimes court in May 2013 for crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence which resulted in Bangladesh separating from Pakistan.
