Businesses across the world are increasingly willing to tackle global challenges; that's according to the UN Secretary-General.

Ban Ki-moon was speaking in Panama in Central America at an event focused on public-private partnerships and the role they play in sustainable development.

Daniel Dickinson reports

2015 is a key year for agreeing new development targets, the sustainable development goals or SDGs that will replace the current international poverty reduction programme.

Speaking in Panama at the CEO Summit of the Americas, which brings together the corporate world and the international community, Ban Ki-moon said that business will play a key role in the new global development agenda and the battle against climate change.

He said that corporations, including many in Latin America, are already tackling global challenges including women's and children's health, sustainable energy and climate change.

Mr. Ban said their efforts are helping to boost gender equality and create more peaceful and accountable societies.

He urged the corporate world to help make 2015 the year of global action.
