Feminist home gave top UN official means to succeed

Growing up in a feminist home with supportive parents who wanted to see their daughters succeed is what a top UN official says gave her the opportunity to become a woman of achievement.

Lakshmi Puri, who is the Deputy Executive Director of the UN agency dedicated to gender equality—UN Women, grew up in post-independent India.

She says her country still has a long way to go until women are equal to men, but recent cases of violence against women show that Indians are "rising up" for change.

Stephanie Coutrix met with Ms Puri who shared about her experience growing up in India.
