Lights are turned off to mark "Earth Hour" on Saturday

Millions of individuals, companies, organizations and governments around the world are turning off lights for one hour on Saturday to focus attention on people-driven solutions to protecting the planet and building a bright sustainable future.

The United Nations is joining the "Earth Hour" global initiative by turning off all non-essential lighting at its headquarters complex in New York.

Earth Hour is a symbolic event to remind people that it is the little things – the daily actions – that are needed by each individual to make a sustainable world and make a difference in the fight against climate change.
