UN peacekeepers and their commanders "sent home" for unsuitable behavior

The UN has taken what it has called "drastic measures" to repatriate some peacekeeping units from the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) that did not behave suitably while serving the Organization.

The admission was made by the head of UN peacekeeping operations, Hervé Ladsous, who briefed the Security Council on Tuesday on the peace and security situation in the western Sudanese region.

Mr Ladsous added that people sent home include unit commanders.

Political impasse in Macedonia of "deep concern" to the UN

A prolonged political impasse in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is of deep concern to the UN human rights office (OHCHR).

It said it is particularly disturbed by the contents of recently published taped conversations that seem to incriminate senior officials in human rights violations.

These include election fraud, harassment of civil society and opposition members, as well as mass surveillance.

OHCHR is calling upon the authorities to launch an independent and impartial investigation into all allegations of wrongdoing and to ensure that the results are made public.

Thousands of South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia relocate ahead of floods

More than 50,000 South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia have begun relocating from flood-prone areas ahead of the rainy season, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

People are being moved from the Leitchuor and Nip Nip refugee camps in western Ethiopia to other locations.

Some two million people had been uprooted by the violence in South Sudan since December 2013.
