Efforts should be intensified to achieve equality between men and women by 2030.

That's according to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speaking at a high-level debate on gender equality on the eve of International Women's Day.

This year the annual celebration comes at a time when the United Nations is reviewing  progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals or MDGs.
