"Dramatic acceleration" in destruction of Iraq cultural heritage

The destruction of cultural heritage by terrorists in Iraq has dramatically accelerated in recent days according to the UN cultural agency, UNESCO.

Extremist groups like ISIL are destroying sites for ideological reasons.

There is also evidence that artifacts are being looted and sold to finance terrorism.

Stephanie Coutrix has been speaking to Axel Plathe who is director of UNESCO's Iraq office.

She began by asking him about the level of destruction in the country.
