All hands "on deck" to reduce risk of disasters, says Ban Ki-moon

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sits down with UN Radio in Sendai, Japan, to discuss disaster risk reduction on 15 March, 2015.

The international community needs to work together to create a new framework on disaster risk reduction according to the UN Secretary-General.

Using a nautical term, he said all hands including governments, the business community, and civil society leaders need to be "on deck" to find an approach to deal with natural and man-made disasters.

Ban Ki-Moon was speaking in Sendai, Japan, where he's been attending the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Nan Zheng asked him what he hoped the meeting would accomplish.
