Women have died in large numbers in West Africa due to the role they have played as caregivers to people infected by the deadly Ebola virus; that's according to the head of UN Women.

More than 9,000 people have died from Ebola in the three worst affected countries, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, says women were the first to respond to the Ebola crisis and that their instinct to touch those who were sick resulted in further infection.

Stephanie Castro has been speaking to Ms Mlambo-Ngcuka.

Women in Kosovo are being encouraged by the United Nations to exercise their legal right to claim property.

Men and women in the territory have equal inheritance rights, but when the issue comes up in courts, women frequently decide to give their share of family property to their male relatives.

The UN in Kosovo is backing programmes which make it easier for women to claim what is theirs, as David Meadows reports.
