Warring parties in Myanmar's Kokang self-administered zone have been urged to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers.

The appeal has been made by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the country, Renata Desalliens following an attack on Tuesday on a convoy of the Myanmar Red Cross Society which was carrying civilians.

Ms Desalliens expressed her concern at the reports of thousands of people displaced by fighting between the Government of Myanmar Army and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army and other armed groups in the Kokang self-administered zone.
