Murder of Mexican journalist condemned by UNESCO chief

The assassination of a Mexican journalist found dead three weeks after he had been kidnapped, has been condemned by the head of the UN cultural agency.

Moisés Sánchez Cerezo," was reportedly abducted from his home on 2 January by armed men who took away his computer, camera and mobile phone.

Moisés Sánchez Cerezo," was the owner and editor of a weekly magazine La Unión in which he denounced insecurity in Medellin de Bravo.

In a statement issued on Monday, Irina Bokova, the Director General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said his killing was an unacceptable attack on journalism.

She called on the Mexican authorities to shed light on this crime and bring its perpetrators to justice.
