The American Hollywood star, Angelina Jolie, cannot imagine a greater horror than having a child kidnapped by a terrorist group.

That's what she said during her recent visit to a refugee camp in the Kurdish region of Iraq, where she met with Syrian refugees and displaced Iraqi citizens.

Many shared with her their personal stories.

Some recounted their ordeal of being kidnapped by the Islamic State or ISIL terrorists, or having a family member still missing.

ISIL extremists are trying to impose their interpretation of Islam by terrorising people in the territories they control in the Middle East.

Leslie Knott reports.
