American actor Forest Whitaker is helping to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.

Mr Whitaker who is a UN Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation, arrived on Friday in the civil war-torn country with the UN's top humanitarian official, Valerie Amos.

Together they will assess the situation on the ground and highlight the urgent needs of the population.

Violent unrest began in December 2013 between government and rebel forces.

Nearly two million South Sudanese have been displaced.

Reech Malual met the pair at the airport.

He began by asking Forest Whitaker if children are able to go to school.
