One and a half billion dollars is needed over the next six months to fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, according to the UN.

Around 8,500 people have died from the disease in the three worst affected countries, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The number of new cases is now in decline, but more money is needed said the UN Deputy Spokesperson, Farhan Haq.

"The work is not yet over. Our goal must be to get to zero cases and there is a long way to go, so continued financial and political support is needed. There is no room for complacency."

In 2014 across the region, international funding paid for 2,000 beds for Ebola patients, more than 250 burial teams and almost 12,000 staff to trace the spread of the disease.
