A new global agenda aiming to end poverty, transform lives and protect the planet by 2030 represents the views of "everyday people".

That's according to Nikhil Chandavarkar, Chief of Communication and Outreach in the Division for Sustainable Development at UNDESA.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are set to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) this year.

Over a million people were consulted from all over the world to shape the 17 goals of the SDGs in a "bottom-up approach", he says.

Speaking to Jocelyne Sambira, Mr Chandavarkar began by explaining the difference between the two.
