An armed attack against the Libyan Central Bank's branch in Benghazi has been condemned by the UN Mission in the country, UNSMIL.

Media reports indicate fighters seized the bank, which is the repository for Libya's oil revenue and holds billions of US dollars in foreign currency reserves.

The Mission believes that the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry will contribute to clarifying the circumstances relating to the incident.

The UN says this attack and the latest ceasefire breaches demonstrate the importance of moving urgently in the dialogue process.

Libya has been plagued by factional fighting since Muammar al-Qhadafi was overthrown in a popular uprising nearly four years ago.
