Anti-Semitic violence to be addressed by General Assembly

The rise in anti-Semitic violence worldwide is being discussed by the General Assembly on Thursday.

The event was organized following a request by Member States of the United Nations last October.

Bernard-Henri Lévy, the French intellectual, philosopher and writer is scheduled to give opening remarks alongside the UN Secretary-General.

Following the terrorist attacks in Paris this month, Ban Ki-moon said he is strongly committed to the essential work of countering extremism and fighting anti-Semitism.

Statements on the rise of prejudice against Jews are also expected from government representatives of Canada, France, Germany and the United States.
