People with disabilities are not looking for charity but want to ensure that their rights are fully recognised. That's according to Catalina Devandas who is set to start her three-year mandate as the UN Human Rights Council's very first Special Rapporteur for people with disabilities. Despite being born with spina bifida, Ms Devandas says her parents treated her "as just another girl" and it's only by chance that she became so involved in disability rights. Daniel Johnson sat down with Ms. Devandas and first asked her about her background and what she hopes to achieve as the world observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 2014.

Around 5700 people have died from the virus, mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Many people are recovering. But now a doctor working at a treatment unit outside the Liberian capital Monrovia has reported a high number of infections of women by their spouses who are Ebola survivors. Olive Thomas asked Dr Anne Atai Omoruto to explain what's happening.

Women around the world deserve to live a life free of fear according to a leading Zimbabwean-American actress. Danai Gurira, best known as Michonne on the drama series "The Walking Dead", attended the UN commemoration of the International Day to End Violence against Women, on 25 November in New York. The actress performed two scenes from her play "Eclipse", which is set in 2003 during the civil war in Liberia. The play highlights the struggle many women face in times of war.
