An attack on civilians in north-eastern Kenya on Monday , which reportedly killed at least thirty-six people, has been condemned as "horrific" by the UN Secretary-General.

The mass murder of quarry workers in Mandera, follows another attack outside the town just over a week ago in which 28 people were taken off a bus and executed.

Militants from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group reportedly claimed responsibility for both incidents.

The Kenyan authorities continue to battle the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab group.

The group has criticised Kenyan involvement in the affairs of Somalia.

The UN chief, Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed the full support of the United Nations to Kenya’s efforts to fight terrorism and provide security for its people.
