Climate change negotiations in Peru have been difficult, but many remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached, according to a UN expert at the talks.

The meeting in Lima is scheduled to end on Friday, but representatives from almost 200 countries may need extra time to agree on international climate efforts.

Nations are working towards a new global agreement to be reached in late 2015 in Paris, which would help limit global temperature rises.

Stephanie Coutrix asked the UN's Daniel Shepard to share his impression of the talks.
