Fighting in eastern Ukraine has resulted in the displacement of more than half a million people this year , according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Hundreds of thousands of others have fled to Russia and other neighbouring countries, as instability in Ukraine continues.

Last month, the UN said killings of civilians in the country were on the rise again despite a ceasefire between warring parties.

The refugee agency said it was concerned about increasing internal displacement.

The UN Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric has more.

"It also said that it lacks first-hand information about areas not under government control, but that there are strong indications that the civilian population in these areas face considerable hardship."  (36″)

With the onset of winter, UNHCR has continued to work to improve the conditions of some of the most vulnerable displaced people.

That has included cash assistance programmes and helping to build collective centres where they are living.
