Young people can propel economies of developing countries: UN report

STATE OF WORLD POPULATION 2014/UNFPA

Developing countries can benefit from having a large population of young people, according to a report released by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) on Tuesday.

The State of World Population 2014 shows that today's 1.8 billion youth could help these countries advance their economies and societies.

However, the report points out that there is a need for the right policies and investment in young people for countries to benefit from "the demographic dividend".

Edgard Pinto discussed the report with Alanna Armitage, director of the UNFPA office in Geneva.
