UN convoy attacked in Iraq

A convoy of vehicles belonging to the UN Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) has been attacked near Baghdad International Airport, the UN has confirmed.

No UN personnel were killed or injured in the incident.

One of the three vehicles in the convoy sustained serious damage.

The UN Deputy Spokesperson is Farhan Haq.

"The Secretary-General's Special Representative, Nickolay Mladenov, said the incident will not deter the UN from continuing its work in support of Iraq and its people"

The terror group which calls itself Islamic State or ISIL reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraq continues to experience instability and conflict as Iraqi security forces and pro-government fighters battle to push back ISIL.
