The Palestinian refugee situation has been described as unsustainable by UNWRA, the UN agency which deals with Palestinian issues.

More than 700,000 people were displaced as far back as 1948 as a result of a war between Arab states and Israel.

Today some five million Palestinians are eligible for United Nations assistance.

The international community continues to work for a two-state solution which will allow Palestinians and Israelis to live alongside each other in peace.

Cristina Silveiro asked Pierre Krähenbühl, the Commissioner General of UNWRA, about the biggest challenge he has faced during his first year heading up the organisation.
