FAO’s nutrition pocketbook – FAO

A pocketbook of nutrition-related data covering all regions of the world has been launched ahead of a major conference taking place in Rome, Italy this week.

Food and Nutrition in Numbers provides data highlighting trends on micronutrient deficiencies, obesity and non-communicable diseases from 1990 to the present.

The pocketbook shows that some two billion people worldwide still lack the micronutrients, that is vitamins and minerals, needed to lead healthy and productive lives.

It has been published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The Organization said it would be a useful reference for policy makers, as it provides an overview of "various aspects of nutrition at country, regional and global levels."

Small, pocket-sized print versions are being distributed to delegations attending the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) meeting in Rome.

FAO added that it will allow delegates to compare country data during the conference and inform policy-makers at home.
