Nuclear science helps to "make food safer"

Nuclear Science is increasingly being used to ensure food safety and detect unsafe food.

It can even help to reduce what's been called food fraud and enable trade.

Nuclear-related methods allow experts to measure pesticide or other chemicals in food products to make sure they meet international standards.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is hosting the International Symposium on Food Safety and Quality this week to discuss these issues and more.

Steve Thachet has been speaking to James Jacob Sasanya, who is a Food Safety Specialist at the IAEA.
