Many countries have laws to tackle violence against women but very few are actually implementing them, according to a senior UN official.

A 16 day campaign to end violence kicked off on 25 November which is observed as the International Day for the Elimination of  Violence against Women.

Iconic buildings in New York and the UN building were all lit in orange to mark the start of the campaign.

Derrick Mbatha sat down with Riet Groenen, Chief of the UN Women's Ending Violence against Women Programme who first explained the choice of the colour orange for the campaign.
