Significant advances have been made in expanding the coverage of protected habitats both on land and sea, a senior UN official has said.

Aichi target 11 is part of a list of 20 time-bound global targets to help reduce or stop the loss of life on Earth or biodiversity.

The Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Mr Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias made the remarks ahead of meeting in Pyeongchang in Korea to review the progress made.

Attending the conference are representatives of the 193 signatories to the CBD, civil society and international organizations.

Despite progress, Mr Dias told Jocelyne Sambira, the world will fail to meet its biodiversity targets without increased efforts.
