WOMEN: Violence in schools often underreported, especially sexual violence

Violence in schools around the world is considered as "normal" which is why it is often not documented, according to an expert on international education. Professor Fiona Leach from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, outlines three broad categories of violence in school-related settings namely physical, psychological and sexual. Recent studies have also linked violence to low academic achievement. Speaking to Alex Goldmark, Ms Leach began by detailing those categories of violence.

Feeding families on the run: conflicts, natural disasters make it harder

Feeding people who are on the run and making sure they safely get the commodities they need was on the agenda of a forum on global food security. Experts in food systems recently met at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization, in Rome, Italy, for the 41st session of the Committee on World Food Security. They discussed policies that can help reduce food insecurity. A side event also discussed the issue of women and food security in times of both conflict and peace. Jocelyne Sambira reports.

South Sudanese women unveil agenda for peace and development

Women in South Sudan have unveiled an agenda for peace and sustainable development which includes the voices and aspirations of women from the country's ten states. The release of the agenda at Juba University in the country's capital, coincides with the break in peace talks between the South Sudan government and the opposition rebel forces. Political in-fighting between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy, Riek Machar, escalated into a full-fledged conflict in December last year. Regina Gorle spoke to Dr. Priscilla Joseph, Chairperson of the South Sudanese Women's Peace Network to find out more.
